It was built between 1843 and 1850 next to the Royal Theatre and the National Library. It’s one of the most remarkable 19th century buildings of Madrid. The architect was Narcissus Pascual y Colomer who was inspired by the classic Italian Palaces.
Its main façades stands out for the six columns and a great classical pediment. The two lion statues that guard the flight of steps are a symbol of the Spanish parliamentary activity.
