Rafael Moneo extended the station during the 1990s. The beautiful old Mediodia station was originally built in 1892.
The building is made or iron and glass and has a great closed-in central area that covers the platforms and tracks. Rafael Moneo created an authentic oasis inside the station and tracks to artificial humidity some of the plants found here neither are nor found anywhere else in the city.
The Puerta de Atocha station has a wide space for organizing meetings and conferences.
