Arabian Wall
Cuesta de la Vega s/n

Today the remains of a 9th century fortress built by Muhammad I are preserved. The 5th independent emir of Cordoba ordered a castle to be built on the left side of the Manzanares River as a defensive bastion of the City of Toledo and to avoid possible attacks by the Christians.

Originally there were two well differentiated enclosures: the first one was located where the Royal Palace is found today and which formed the castle and the mosque; and the second one was made up of the Mozarabic quarters including that of San Ginés.

Four gates defined the walled enclosure: the Moorish Gate. The closed gate, the gate of Guadalajara and of the Gate of Balnadú, which was located where the Royal Palace lies today.
